Passwordless login

Passwordless login lets you sign in using something else, like a phone number or a security key. It's safer than passwords because it's harder for hackers to steal or guess.

A passwordless login is a method of signing in to an account without using a traditional password. Instead, users might enter a phone number, use a biometric like a fingerprint, or receive a code via text message. This approach reduces the risk of passwords being stolen, forgotten, or guessed by attackers.

What it means

Passwordless login removes the need for users to remember and manage passwords. It relies on other forms of authentication that are more secure and convenient. For example, a user might log in by scanning a QR code with their phone or using a hardware key that proves they're the rightful owner of the account.

Why it matters

Passwords are a common target for hackers. They can be stolen through phishing, brute force attacks, or data breaches. Passwordless login makes it harder for attackers to gain access because they need to control the user's phone or device, or have access to a physical security key.

What to do

If you're using a service that supports passwordless login, enable it. Look for options like "Sign in with Google," "Sign in with Apple," or using a security key. Always make sure your phone and devices are secure, and avoid sharing your phone number or security keys with untrusted services.
